A Celebration of Winter Holidays
During November and December, the youth group, along with the elementary group, will be learning about the Winter Holidays and Traditions of other religions and peoples around the world. This will be an opportunity to learn what Christianity and other religions have in common, as well as their differences.
Almost all cultures and religions have some kind of special celebration that takes place during the winter months. In the past, winter has inspired fear and dread. It was a time of darkness, cold, and sickness. Winter holidays often involved rituals or decorations involving candles to symbolize bringing back the light. We’ll explore these traditions through stories, crafts, and music. We’ll give special focus to Kwanzaa, Christmas, Chanukah, and Chinese New Year.
